For over ten years the John G. Chipura Foundation has been committed to follow in the footsteps of John bringing people together and helping those in need. In memory of Chip, the goal of the Foundation is to continue making a difference in the lives of men and women who serve their communities and country. It's mission is to help the members and families of the Boy Scouts of America, U.S. Military, New York City Police Department and Fire Department of New York, who are in need in our community.
After September 11, 2001, Chip's job partners, family and friends came together in remembrance of him. In order to support causes that were dear to John they started an annual golf outing. The first golf outing was held in 2003 and was a huge success in both raising money and the tremendous camaraderie that was enjoyed while gathering to remember John.
The golf outing has been held in Staten Island every September since then and is attended by more than 200 supporters, including Wounded Warriors who play golf as part of their rehabilitation regimen. Besides raising money, in order to truly honor Chip, the foundation has also run events where people can do good deeds. The foundation has started an annual blood drive in John's honor in conjunction with New York Blood Center. Eagle Scouts who apply can receive funding towards their college degree.
The John G. Chipura Foundation has raised and distributed more than $20,000 to families in need. Helping with medical costs for children with cancer to firefighters recovering from the effects of 9-11. We encouraged and financially supported more than 15 Eagle Scouts to continue their education into college. Our foundation most recently assisted 25 families who were affected by Super Storm Sandy. Our foundation has also saved many lives through the pints of blood donated at our blood drives. Blood drives run by the foundation have collected over 500 pints of blood over the past 10 years.
